Ruto’s old tweet to Gachagua has sparked outrage

As the crucifixion of Rigathi Gachagua continues in the Senate, an old tweet posted by Deputy President William Ruto that addressed Gachagua has resurfaced.
The tweet shared by the current President William Ruto in July 2021 shows that the two have had better days as the administration of the former President Uhuru Kentatta continued to trouble the two, using the legal system.

When Gachagua was in so much legal trouble, he was shamefully arrested at his home in Sagana and put on trial, William Ruto was one of his biggest supporters, although the criminal justice system brought him to court. He was accused of fraud and corruption..

In a three-year-old tweet, the Ruto support expressed his solidarity with Gachagua, calling the accusations “false” and accusing the two for being “friends”.

Ruto wrote: “My brother Gachagua, I know you are strong because we know that these false accusations came with a political agenda. This persecution will end because of our friendship and our political beliefs God is our father. This persecution will end because of our friendship and our political beliefs. There are relationships, connections, lineages, ancestors, but God is our father

— Dr. William Samoei Ruto (@WilliamsRuto) July 23, 2021

The tweet, which has recently re-emerged online, is a stark reminder of the great times the political twins shared before they gained power and had an unbreakable disagreement.

Rigathi Gachagua was a prominent politician who supported the then-Deputy President, risking his political career in favor of the man believed to be the frontrunner for the 2022 Presidential elections, during the height of tension between Ruto and Kenyatta.

Due to his loyalty to Ruto, Gachagua was targeted by the Kenyatta administration and arrested him on fraud charges. In July of 2021, a group of 15 detectives raided Gachagua’s home in an unusual move, apprehending him and driving him to Nairobi for fraud accusations.

During his statement to the press, he expressed his genuine fear of being arrested and charged with unknown offenses. I am facing a false arrest due to my political beliefs. Arresting me without evidence linking me to a crime is wrong and pointless.”.

Now, Kenyans are starting to pay attention to the old tweet, which compares the current political crisis facing Gachagua to the pressure he faced then – to support a man he believed to be is taking care of its new problems.

Despite all that has happened to you, you still retain your power, which caused him trouble? He was your person three years ago! Why now, sir?” someone asked on X.

Some are now questioning the whole political allegiance because after his shameful arrest for supporting William Ruto, the same man is running another similar situation three years later.

“This man took off his clothes in front of his children to support you. How can you forget it so quickly? Political honesty is a lie!” Elvis Mwangi wrote.

Gachagua is still facing unprecedented pressure and could be ousted from the Deputy Speaker position, but his friend William Ruto has not intervened to rescue him….
