Safaricom and NBA Africa collaborate to introduce a youth program in Kenya.

In order to empower young people through sports, Safaricom and NBA (National Basketball Association)-Africa have partnered to launch a youth basketball development program through M-PESA. Through regional and national Jr.

NBA tournaments, NBA Fit & coaching clinics, and an elite camp for top Kenyan prospects, the program will empower youth 16 years of age and under.

NBA Africa and M-PESA have partnered to organize four regional Jr. NBA tournaments throughout Kenya, which will culminate in an eight-team National Championship.

M-PES Go, a product designed to promote financial inclusion and financial literacy among juniors aged 10 to 17, will provide life skills seminars and financial literacy training at the Jr. NBA Fit clinics.

Through training and mentorship programs, the NBA Africa-accredited scouts and coaches will also assist with junior player coaching and capacity building.

Scouts from the regional tournaments will select the top 100 players (boys and girls) to enroll in the NBA elite basketball camp. After that, they will be able to take part in other elite development programs offered by NBA Africa across the continent.

.” Through M-PESA Go, this partnership will not only assist in the development of local basketball talent but also provide young people with the fundamental financial literacy they need to support their personal development.
