Standard Chartered KTB, partner to increase the international appeal of the Kenya Marathon

In an effort to broaden international participation in the marathon, the Standard Chartered Marathon has offered partnership with the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) for a period of 3 years including the coming event on 27th of October 2024. The collaboration is a section of a larger project aimed at making Kenya “your top marathon destination.

June Chepkemei, CEO of KTB, said the Kenya Marathon events are a great  opportunity to showcase the country’s special appeal to an international audience. He said the partnership of the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon will cement Kenya’s status as the center of marathon running.

“We are proud to partner with the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon. This event globally gives an opportunity to run alongside Kenyans and there is no better way to involve Kenya as a home for the marathon. We strongly believe that  this partnership will increase tourism in the country.”.

She rather added that Kenya’s world popularity in sports has captivated athletes and enthusiasts to practice and compete in this country. KTB plans to capitalize on this concern through a comprehensive ‘Run with Champions’ campaign, which promotes Kenya’s diverse contributions to international guests.

“We will continue to work with similar organizations to promote Kenyan sports tourism global map. We will work with our tourism partners and create packages that will enable the participants experience rich countries and rich cultures. “Thanks to the life of Kenya. The ‘Running with Heroes’ program showcases the region’s biggest marathons and offers athletes a unique training experience alongside Kenya’s most famous runners.”.

More than 270,000 participants have joined the 20th edition of the Nairobi Standard Marathon since its initiation, will be held on October 27, 2024. The marathon is likely to have more than 23,000 participants in the country and the world this year.

The Chairman of the Standard Chartered Marathon, Peter Gitau, accentuated the objective of increasing global participation.

The marathon is a great chance to advance Kenya as a end point and the collaboration with KTB offers a great advantage.” One of our key performance indicators is to appeal a large number of participants from around the world. We are happy to announce that  Gitau is promoting Kenya as a great choice for marathon and sports tourism.


Encompassed ‘Run with Champions’ initiative, KTB works hand in hand with various training camps here in Kenya to provide athletes and fans with a better understanding of the legacy of the sport that has seen us achieve some of the best distance runners in the world ..
