Indonesian president lead son to become vice president.

Although there were restrictions to speak to the media, some people chose to remain anonymous. A number of them described how Widodo had introduced his son Gibran, 37-year-old into politics as part of a bid to retain power after exiting office. The four also talked about how Prabowo began courting his former rival’s son about nine months before the court decided the age of opportunity, hence silencing the critics and making it smooth for Gibran to vie for the seat.

Gibran’s influence is highly depended on his relation with Prabowo since the deputy president’s power is limited. Reuters was unable to expound on what his responsibilities would be, but some people close enough  to the president-elect said the positions would focus on digital economy, overseeing new capital, and the government’s food policy. Prabowo is being considered.

After three years as the mayor of a small town, Gibran will become the youngest vice president of Indonesia. “Some People voiced their concern saying he might be  unproductive,” said Firman Noor, a policy researcher at the National Agency for Research and Innovation, a government think tank.

Fairman Noor said that Gibran could not match his father’s skills in politics. Jokowi has a relationship with the people, but it is difficult for Gibran who has an attitude.

In June, Gibran apologized after handing out a book to children on a school trip with his young son’s face on the cover, which critics joked was the child at the back of the queue for a seat in the office. When he ran for mayor in 2020, Widodo’s advisers warned him about his communication skills with the people.

Widodo expressed his concerns but believed the position he once held was a good opportunity, and it must have trained him on how to conduct himself on the ground for national politics.

One of the obstacles to this plan is F.X. Hadi Rodatmo, a sole chairman of PDI-P. Hasto-Cristianto plainly said he did not encourage the decision to nominate young Gibran.

Hasto said Widodo, when he tried to appease the officer, offered him the position of deputy minister, which he refused.

Reuters previously reported that Gibran is particularly popular among Indonesia’s Gen Z voters, a large segment of the population and this is an added advantage to him.

Photographs taken of Gibran during his mayor office times at city hall went viral earlier this year, making him popular in the comment section, many talking about the toys and collectibles he displayed.

According to Emil, “Gen Z loves it,”  Gibran’s former mentor. “They look at him and proclaim, ‘That’s my guy.’ .he added.
