Members of the Committee on Public Investment and Education asked why the board of trustees just gave 200 acres worth Ksh 1.08 billion to the school despite the change in the law back in 2014 which should should be submitted by the board of trustees. On the school grounds
The board chaired by Bumula MP Wamboka Wanami has summoned former Baringo governor Gideon Moi the head of the board of trustees to explain the mistake .
The land in question was handed over to the university in 1972 by the late President Daniel Moi after it was bought by the public and handed over to the Board of Trustees to keep it under control.
“There is no law at all. If the deceased Moi desired to give it to someone, he should have given the land he owns. All the land of the public administration should not be touched. Reason we called Gideon to come explain this thing.
On the request to return the public land to the school, Wamboka states they will visit the school to ask why the land was not returned as per to TVET. Act of 2014..
In a meeting, the committee discussed the accounting issues with the management of the school directed by their principal Sami Chemoywa.
“We are going to a meeting at the institution. We are coming to your university for two weeks and our idea is to return the land to the people and we will do it even if it is going to hurt some people.
Chemoywa admits that they do not own the land, although he is not sure if the school could manage the entire land if they owned it.
“Yes, it is true that we do not have the land titles. However, my sincere opinion is that if all the land is returned to the university, I would prefer that someone else manage it, because if it is i to do it, I will be overwhelmed.
This response angered the members who accused the leader to have complied with their members of the community. We can read the signs. But we will let you know if we can ask someone else to do it if you don’t think you can manage the land. Wamboka said let’s just give it time and see.
