The Harambee Rising Stars, Kenya’s U20 national football team, triumphantly returned home after earning a spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The team’s convincing victories over Sudan and Burundi secured their spot in the continental competition, inspiring new hope for Kenyan football’s future. Salim Babu, the head coach, was proud of the team’s accomplishments but emphasized the importance of improved preparation.
He said, “We’ve learned a lot from the games, but I think we could perform even better with more time and support from the government and federation.” Babu underlined the value of incorporating these young players into the senior national team while highlighting the depth of talent on the team.
The team’s qualification thrilled Captain Amos Wanjala, who described it as an important accomplishment. “Leading this team to AFCON qualification feels fantastic. The knowledge has been priceless, according to Wanjala.
Additionally, he made reference to the new coaching philosophy that is based on the “tiki-taka” style of play. “We need to improve our finishing, but we can aim higher and win trophies if the federation and government support us more.” The best goalkeeper in the competition, Ibrahim Wanzala, also gave some thought to the accomplishment. He remarked, “I’m thankful to God for this chance,” after learning that he had been called up for the next CHAN competition.
