A Kiambu woman faces 36 charges of child pornography and indecent behavior towards minors
A 39-year-old woman from Kikuyu, Kimabu County, has been charged with sexually abusing children by using child pornography and other offensive materials. The daycare operator was charged with 36 counts of child abuse, indecent acts with minors, and child pornography when she appeared before Kikuyu Law Courts on Thursday.
The accused allegedly used children as young as two years old to create pornographic material by forcing them to have sex and indecently touching their private areas, according to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP).
“The images and videos were discovered by chance when she misplaced her phone, which was later found, and the person who found it accessed it in an attempt to trace its owner,” said the ODPP. The prosecution objected to her release on bond during the hearing, claiming that she was in danger of being lynched at the time of her arrest.
Given the gravity of the accusations, they also expressed worries about witness interference and the possibility that she would flee the court. According to the ODPP, the prosecution objected to the defendant’s request for the pornographic photos and videos to be used in her defense, claiming that doing so would “amount to further distribution in furtherance of the offence.”
