DCI has refuted claims of hindering Gachagua to enter church

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have refuted claims made by a local newspaper that they tried to prevent former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from attending a church service in Nairobi.

The DCI officers stated on Tuesday, November 12, that the allegations were untrue and deceptive, suggesting that they were designed to distort the narrative of their actions and motives.

As per the detectives, the DCI functions within the guidelines set by the rule of law and has continuously emphasized its dedication to avoiding any intrusion into the freedoms of individuals and organizations.

Although the DCI distanced itself from the allegations, it pointed out that the writer’s claims of being unable to get a comment from the officers were inaccurate.

The DCI officers emphasized the importance of the local publication conducting thorough fact-checking, presenting balanced perspectives, and handling sensitive topics with care while maintaining the principles of fairness in journalism.

We wish to make it clear that these allegations are completely untrue and appear to be designed to distort the actions and intentions of the DCI. Part of the DCI’s statement emphasized the importance of the publication verifying facts diligently, offering balanced perspectives, and treating sensitive topics with care.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations responded promptly, confirming the DCI’s dedication to honoring the independence of religious organizations. The writer acknowledged receiving this response, as stated.

In the report, the local daily claimed that the founder of the church where Gachagua was supposed to attend informed the congregation that the government had attempted to cancel Gachagua’s appearance. The reason provided was that hosting him could be seen as incitement and could disturb the peace in the area.

As per the highlighted article, the priest relayed through a secretary-general to the board that detectives had visited his home in Ruiru, Kiambu County after the service, inquiring about his reasons for hosting the former deputy president.

Nevertheless, the bishop remained steadfast, affirming that Gachagua’s attendance at his church was simply a regular church service, and shortly after, they departed.

The secretary-general of the board at the church mentioned that the priest needed to change cars as he had received information that detectives were following him.

The article also claimed that detectives driving unmarked Subaru vehicles referred to Gachagua’s presence as a violation of national security, suggesting that it could potentially spark anti-government sentiments within the local community.
