PS Kiptoo refutes claims of acquiring surveillance software 2027 Elections.

Chris Kiptoo, the Principal Secretary of the Treasury, has threatened to sue the Nation Media Group over a story published about the government’s purchase of ‘surveillance software’ ahead of the 2027 general elections.

On Tuesday, November 26, Kiptoo responded in style to the allegations and labeled the story titled “Ruto Men Sued Over ‘Classified’ Spying Software” as false and misleading.

The story carrying Kiptoo’s photo insinuated that he was involved in some scheme to acquire classified technology for the government, for propaganda purposes, ahead of the next general elections. In a message posted on the National Treasury’s X account, Kiptoo said the allegations had no basis.

The article also insinuates “confidential accounts” within the Treasury that funds would be allocated to the said scheme.

That statement is an absolute lie. The PS further clarified that no such accounts exist. The operations of the National Treasury are undertaken within the strict legal and regulatory frameworks for transparency and accountability.

A petition has allegedly been filed against individuals involved in acquiring the ‘spying software’ it intends to procure.

This is an absolute falsehood. The PS categorically stated that no such accounts exist, and all operations of the National Treasury are subject to strict legal and regulatory regimes that ensure that transparency and accountability are maintained at all times.

The article states that charges have been filed against those accused in connection with the purported purchase of the ‘spy software’.

The PS thereafter demanded from the media house an immediate withdrawal of the story and a public apology for causing damage to his reputation.

If the newspaper does not make the requisite corrections, I will be forced to exercise my constitutional right to seek all available legal redress to protect my reputation. The PS observed, calling on all media outlets to adhere to the best standards of journalism as enshrined in the Media Council Act and the Code of Conduct for the Practice of Journalism in Kenya.
