The Kenyan researcher TIFA reported that 41% of Kenyans support the dismissal of Vice President Rigathi Gachagua, according to their latest poll. TIFA said in its report that 38 percent of Kenyans oppose the trial, mostly from Mount Kenya, Gachagua home ground.
The survey shows that 69% of Kenyans in Mount Kenya oppose the abolition, 20% support it while 47% support the move to other regions, 28% oppose it.
Some individuals believed that his removal was due to substandard performance and inadequate leadership, while 13% believed it was an abuse of office. 12% believed this was because of disagreements with President William Ruto, and 2% believed there were disagreementS with UDA leaders.
A third of those who opposed the impeachment (36%) alleged that Gachagua is being treated unfairly, while 18% believed that he is an effective leader and another 7% recommended implacing him with the President.
Six percent support pardoning Gachagua, while 4% believe his impeachment has not been justified, and 1% believe the country will be unstable once again removed.
TIFA now says that most respondents expect Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki to fill the vacancy if Gachagua is impeached with the number considerably higher among the residents of the Mt. Kenya region.
The researcher said that 58% of those in Mt.Kindiki is expected to take over Gachagua in Kenya, with 30% of the population coming from outside the region.
