EACC rejects claims of misrepresentation of linked elements

To reply the press release, the commission said: yesterday (Wednesday)”The amount included in the charge related to the accused is entirely fraudulent scheme of those who have been arrested. “.

The EACC said some media reports have misrepresented what happened at the Mombasa Anti-Corruption Court.

In view of this, the amount stolen by the accused is not an important question for the court.

The commission explained during Wednesday’s hearing, that the judge said  Ksh 7 million previously reported by the EACC would not be correct if the charge sheet shows Ksh4 million in the case, so this means that the sheet can not be trusted for reference.

“Reject the defendants’ request to defame EACC and the media, Honorable. Alex Ithuku observed whether the charge sheet showed Ksh 4 million, instead of Ksh 7 million which he said is incorrect as previously announced by EACC . ” It is part of the commission’s statement.”Therefore, Honorable Judge, EACC concluded that the Judge’s words ‘if the accusation before me is justified. ‘ were not considered misleading, they were not true. ” When EACC investigators on Tuesday October 22 arrested four officers in Taita Taveta County who were accused of stealing Ksh 7 million from the county’s funds for theft during the First World War. The four were arraigned in court to answer the charges.

Initial investigations revealed that these four men forged documents in order to withdraw money from the county’s accounts.

Some of the vendors listed as doing business with the County for the event said they did not offer anything to support the their case.

The First World War commemoration is an annual event organized by the Taita Taveta County Government that attracts a large number of local and foreign tourists, including diplomats. from abroad from the UK, France, Germany, Canada and Belgium.
