Governor Bii is optimistic about Uwasin Gishu County hosting the African Road Cycling Race
All systems go for the CAC African Road Cycling Championships which will take place this week in Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet and Nandi from 9-13. October.
The race week starts with the Wednesday morning Time Trial – an individual effort to post the fastest time..Riders will take on the 11.2km long race around Eldoret town with the junior women’s race starting at 09.00. They cover one lap of the track, followed by the men’s, youth, women’s under-23 and senior categories, which run for two sessions..
Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii said: “I want to welcome all our fans and we want everyone to come… it’s a very exciting event.”
The governor pointed to the economic opportunities that the championships provide, saying that this is a unique opportunity to showcase the county, attract investors and influence businesses and – region.
“You can imagine if people from 20 different countries are riding bicycles … even our local businesses will benefit.
Governor Bii also emphasized the need of Uasin Gishu to host other major events, saying the government is working to successfully host AFCON 2027.
