Govt: Door-to-door registration as SHA numbers decrease

Looking back from October the government has noticed a decrease in the numbers registered on (SHIF). Consequently, new measures are being undertaken strategically to tackle the drop in new registration to make sure that all 55 million Kenyans get enrolled in the program. Initially, about 12 million Kenyans have obtained access to (SHIF)health services. Following a disappointing response in the past few days, the government has chosen to shift its approach to boost enrollment.

A total of 14 million Kenyans by Wednesday,  successfully enrolled in the new program, with fresh registrations of about  8 million and a total of 6 million who smoothly transitioned from the defund (NHIF) But this is not enough, so currently the government is utilizing door to door approach in the recent campaign to encourage more people to enroll in the new medical scheme, all he while emphasizing it’s advantages.

The door-to-door campaigns kicked off in Machakos led by Mary Muthoni the Health PS alongside (CHP) Community Health Promoters. The government believes that the daily registration of about 90, 000 people, could be increased with more efforts and strategies put in place.

The PS encouraged family providers to consider enrolling their dependants in the new health program collectively other than doing it individually. She further assured that no one will be left behind. Individuals earning 30. 000 or less will now pay a reduced amount compared to the previous contributions to (NHIF) Elaborating more on the importance of everyone registering she stated that in case of any illness, individuals can seek treatment at a nearby health facility. She encouraged more people to sign up by gifting them instantly. Some of the places she toured were Mwanyani, Muthuni, and Mbilini as she monitored the community health programs.
