KNH will dispose 262 bodies, including many children.
Relatives with their loved ones’ bodies at the Kenyatta National Hospital are asked to collect them to avoid any procedures for disposal.
In a notice dated Tuesday, November 26, the hospital announced it has 262 uncollected bodies. It grants the families a seven-day window from the date of the notice to claim the bodies, failure to which it will have them handled for disposal.
There are some unclaimed bodies at the Kenyatta National Hospital Farewell Home. The Public Health Act Cap 243, in particular the Subsidiary Legislation known as Public Health [Public Mortuaries] Rules, 1991.
According to the hospital’s report, most of these abandoned bodies are children, with only 16 being adults.
The notice is appealing to the public that those interested in identifying bodies would please come and identify them, within 7 days. Otherwise, the hospital will be obliged to approach the courts to seek permission over the disposal of bodies.
The hospital said that it was allowed to dispose of seven bodies, and if the remaining unclaimed ones whose families do not come to collect their loved ones, those would also be disposed of accordingly.
