At the conference which was held by the Catholic Bishops last week, it was clear that they were dissatisfied by the leadership of President Ruto. At the meeting they voiced their criticism concerning the corrupt administration, deceit, and broken promises, claiming Ruto’s leadership is full of greed and selfishness which has misguided the people to lose trust in the government. The Anglican and Catholic Bishops refused publicly the donations from politicians and this move was welcomed by many, including Professor Lumumba who said that the church is finally awake from its imposed slumber on the state.
Soweto Catholic church choir and the missionary council received 600,000 from President Ruto and 200,000 from Governor Sakaja Johnson. It’s amazing to see money which was once received with a grateful heart, finally not being welcomed. What has really transpired suddenly making the church dance a different tune? Archbishop Anyolo Philip declared that the total amount would be returned by Sunday.
Mathew 5: 13 and Romans 12.2, are the verses which were referenced by Professor Lumumba as he reminded the faithful Christians that we are the salt of the earth. He further commented that the church is finally emerging from its previous self-imposed state of rest and soft life. His ministration attributed significance to the current matters and the words found in the scriptures.
He advised the politicians not to misuse money to manipulate the people and cover up their ill intentions. Thanking the members he reminded politicians that power doesn’t last forever and that they should know that it’s a privilege and honor to serve. So do your best during your term and win the trust of the people.
