MPs will receive Ksh. 5 million if they sign my impeachment motion: DP Gachagua

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has claimed that his opponents are determined to remove him from office and that they are offering Ksh. 5 million to Members of Parliament in exchange for their formal support of the impeachment motion.

Speaking to Kirinyaga County’s Mwea people, Gachagua disclosed that his opponents tried to buy off county woman representatives Njeri Maina and James Murango through bribes, but that they turned them down in defiance.

He went on to say that such attempts would not stop him from fighting for the Kenyan people who supported him in the election.

“When Njeri was called, they tried to instill fear in her by asking her to sign a document supporting my impeachment, but she refused.

Despite being told to accept Ksh. 5 million, she declined. He clarified that Senator James Murango was also offered money, but he turned it down.

The DP turned his attention to President William Ruto, his boss, pleading with him not to start the impeachment process. Gachagua and his supporters have charged that the president is quietly arranging his own downfall by using the influence of multiple Members of Parliament to advance the motion through Parliament.

“The Kenyan people, not the president, chose me to be their leader. You selected Ruto because I was present, even though I ran a single ticket and won the presidency as well.

You would not have selected Gachagua if he hadn’t been present,” Gachagua remarked. “Let him tell us if he’s sick of getting votes from Mount Kenya. We embraced him as our own and cast sincere ballots for him.

He ought to quit telling the MPs to remove us from office,” he continued. The DP has been traveling around Nairobi and the Mount Kenya region in recent weeks in an effort to mobilize his supporters.
