Nyamira County: Speaker seat is no longer vacant

The County Government of Nyamira announced a vacancy in the Office of the Speaker on Monday, October 28, which was later annulled.

Nyamira’s County Public Service Board has declared that they are no longer accepting applications for the speaker role as the vacancy notice has been rescinded.

Members of the public were cautioned by members of staff to be on the lookout for false individuals who advertised for a job position in one of their local publications, as published by the County Public Service Board.

– Hey folks! Big news alert! 🚨 The ad for the County Assembly Speaker role, published on 25th October 2024, has been yanked off by the Board.

The advertisement stated that the County Assembly will not be responsible for fraud in relation to the mentioned advert. The announcement of the Vacant position was made only three days after the Public Service Board impeached Enock Okero, who had held the position for two years.

23 MCA members voted in favor of Okero’s impeachment, which led to mixed reactions on Thursday mid-morning.  At first, the County Clerk had informed the public to apply for the speaker position after the impeachment process ended.

“It is notified for the information of the general public that pursuant to Section 11(1)(c) of the County Government Act, 2012 (Rev. ]

Stand by for further instructions. In accordance with Rule 60 of the Nyamira County Assembly Standing Orders, the Speaker of Nyamira County Assembly, Enock Ogori Okaro, has been removed from office by way of impeachment.

“The Office of the Speaker is officially declared vacant,” announced the initial advert from the office of the clerk. The Board abruptly canceled the advertisement without providing any explanations, leaving potential applicants bewildered.

However, the Board did not disclose the motives behind scrapping the advertisement, despite recently investing resources in advertising for the vacant position.
