President Ruto has been traveling around the country for the past year hinting at a revival of the 2022 campaign mode where he generously distributed cash nationwide to attract the public vote. During his travels, he has committed more than 630 million Kshs. The question is, will he own his promises now that the people of Kenya are more alert than before not forgetting the hashtag “uongoo” still fresh in people’s minds? Since the Kenya Kwanza administration took office, it has now been two years, but they have encountered innumerable challenges and criticism that point to their failures.
The strategy that Ruto used to gain the power and trust of the people, was through making promises that most of them, he hasn’t fulfilled. What looked like the savior the people were waiting for has now turned into a pool of deceit as the people condemn the (BETA) bottom-up economic transformation agenda.
The people recognized his astute political skills which put him in the spotlight as he is working to fulfill the promises to quiet the people who currently claim that he climbed to power through deceit.
Moreover, it remains unclear whether the president will honor his promises and acknowledge the donations he made to churches and institutions. There’s a plan to give the salvation army church 50 million in a pledge given on March 3, 2024, to complete ongoing projects. 30 million was allocated towards the development of hotels at (KMTC) in July 2024, in Tharaka Nithi.
Has he mastered what makes the people forget for a moment about his earlier promises? Wherever the president goes he gives a pledge of 50 million or more. At Tangaza University, during the inauguration ceremony in November 2024, he allocated a similar amount for development purposes. This commitment was warmly welcomed by the audience.
He further emphasized the need to address matters in higher education to enhance the well-being of the public in general. some of the institutions and churches reach out to him requesting assistance and as it is with, him he never says no to a call, the only headache facing the people is the fulfillment of the promises. In total, he has pledged more than 630 million Kshs so far through learning institutions and churches, an amount which is likely to increase as he woes the people strategically his eyes fixed on the 2027 presidency.
