President William Ruto has urged the international community to intensify its support for Haiti’s recovery efforts, emphasising the need for sustained security and socio-economic transformation in the country.
Ruto spoke at the Leader-Level Meeting of the ECOSOC Ad Hoc Advisory Group on Haiti, emphasising the importance of global action in assisting Haiti’s long-term stability and recovery.
President Ruto who recently visited Port-au-Prince, expressed optimism after meeting with Haitian political leaders and Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission personnel.
He highlighted the mission’s early successes, such as the reopening of Port-au-Prince’s airport and the resumption of flights, as well as the retaking of the city’s main hospital.
He stated that these actions are already helping to restore Haiti’s economy and hope.
Ruto urged the United Nations Security Council to renew the MSS mandate, stating that continued global support is critical for progress.
He also proposed new ways to fund the mission and urged international partners to contribute more money, equipment, and logistics.
“To secure Haiti’s future, it is imperative that we continue to work together,” he remarked, while commending the contributions of the United States, Canada, and other supporting nations.
