On Tuesday, November 12, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) pleasantly revealed the recruitment of 5,690 additional teachers for significant positions in primary and secondary schools nationwide, inviting applications for this opportunity within a brief one-week window.
The commission announced the hiring of 755 teachers for the post-primary school principals role, which corresponds to secondary schools.
Candidates applying for the Principal position should have prior experience as Deputy Principals or Senior Masters for at least six months.
According to the statement by the TSC, in order to be appointed to this grade, a teacher should have held the position of Deputy Principal II/Senior Master I, T-Scale 12 for at least six (6) months and received a positive assessment through the performance appraisal.
The statement further emphasized that a teacher should showcase their skills in overseeing, guiding, and offering professional assistance to fellow teachers, in addition to fulfilling any other criteria set by the Commission.
The TSC plans to recruit 816 teachers as Deputy Principals nationwide. These positions will be filled by individuals with at least three years of experience as Senior Masters in their schools.
The Commission indicated that in order to be appointed to this grade, a teacher must have achieved a satisfactory rating in the performance appraisal process and shown the ability to effectively supervise, mentor, and offer professional support to fellow teachers.
As outlined by the TSC, 5,690 teachers are set to be recruited following the Career Progression Guidelines, aimed at advancing and rewarding educators based on their years of service in the education sector.
The commission has also unveiled plans to recruit an extra 1,208 school administrators for primary schools, in efforts to tackle the teacher shortage across the country.
To be appointed as the primary school headteacher, TSC specified that a teacher should have a minimum of three years of experience serving as a Deputy Head Teacher II on TSC Scale 9.
The Commission further highlighted that teachers aspiring to become primary school heads need to achieve favorable ratings in their performance evaluations and exhibit proficiency in overseeing, guiding, and offering professional assistance to their colleagues.
The government plans to recruit an additional 2,911 teachers to serve as deputy headteachers in primary schools around the country. To be eligible for promotion to this level, a teacher must have accumulated at least three years of experience as a Senior Teacher I on T-Scale 8.
Candidates who are interested and possess the necessary qualifications are encouraged to submit their applications via the TSC portal by midnight on Monday, November 18th.
