Two dead, 5,000 displaced in Haitian attack on Port-au-Prince

Haiti has been plagued by violence for years, but the conflict has become more severe in recent months due to the country’s substandard humanitarian, security and political conditions.

According to a report sent to AFP, two women were killed in attacks carried out by several groups grouped under the group Viv Ansanm (“Life Together”) in the southern region of Solino.

“They were killed in their homes,” the civil defense report said, describing burned buildings and vehicles.

Several areas of Port-au-Prince have been targeted by gangs since the beginning of this month, and the attacks continued in Solino on Monday evening.

Columns of smoke can be seen from houses burned by groups from the area.

The gangs also attacked a school in the town of L’Estere, killing a parent and injuring several students.

In early October, the group attacked the town of Pont-Sonde, killing 109 and injuring more than 40..

UN-supported multi-national operation, led by Kenya, to assist Haitian police has resulted in violence, despite the deployment of an Israeli-backed mission this summer.

The initial goal of 2,500 police officers is far from over.

Currently, powerful groups control 80 percent of Port-au-Prince and the country’s main roads.

More than 3,661 people have died in Haiti since January, according to figures released in late September by the United Nations High Commission for Human Rights..

According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), violence and humanitarian measures have forced over 700,000 people, most of them children, to flee their homes..
